Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This policy explains what information AltFile ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you use this website, in plain language rather than dense legal boilerplate. It's written to apply fairly regardless of where you're visiting from, with specific sections for the EU/UK, the US, and general international visitors.

The short version

We don't require accounts, we don't ask for your name or email, and the files you convert are never uploaded to our servers every conversion happens locally in your browser. There is no daily limit requiring us to track your activity. The main thing we (and our advertising partners, if any are active) collect is standard, ordinary web traffic data, described below.

Who is responsible for your data

AltFile, reachable at contact@altfile.xyz, operates this site and is the data controller for the limited information described here.

Information we collect

We do not collect your name, email address, physical address, or any account information, because no account or sign-up exists on this site. We do not sell personal information, and we have no mechanism to link your visits to a real-world identity.

Your files

Every conversion tool on this site image, PDF, and data conversion runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. The files you upload are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers. We have no access to the content of any file you convert, at any point.

Cookies and advertising

This site may be supported by advertising, which can include Google AdSense and/or directly-placed sponsor banners, depending on our current setup.

We ask for your consent before any advertising cookie is set. When you first visit, a banner lets you Accept or Decline. If you decline, the AdSense script is never loaded and no advertising cookies are set you can still use every tool. You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer.

If accepted, Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising generally (independent of this site's own banner) via Google's Ads Settings, aboutads.info (US), or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).

A directly-sold sponsor banner (when shown instead of or alongside AdSense) is a static image/link and does not itself set advertising cookies, though the destination site you click through to may have its own tracking review its privacy policy separately.

Your rights in the European Union / UK / EEA (GDPR)

If you're located in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to: access the limited data we hold; request correction or erasure; restrict or object to processing; request data portability; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. In practice, because we collect no account-linked personal data, most of these rights have little to act on but the right to object to advertising cookies is exercised directly through the consent banner and Google's own opt-out tools above.

Our legal basis for standard server logging is legitimate interest (site security and operation). Our legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent, obtained before any such cookie is set.

Your rights in the United States (including CCPA/CPRA and similar state laws)

If you're a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, correct inaccuracies, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising). We do not sell personal information in the traditional sense, and since no account data exists, there is little to request access to or deletion of beyond cookie preferences, which you control directly via the consent banner. If you're in a state with a comprehensive privacy law (e.g. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others), similar rights generally apply, and the same practical answer holds: the advertising-cookie consent banner is the primary control you have, and declining it opts you out of ad personalization on this site.

Visitors in other countries

Regardless of where you're visiting from, the same core practices apply everywhere on this site: no accounts, no file uploads to our servers, and advertising cookies only after you actively consent. If your country's law grants specific data rights not addressed above, contact us and we'll do our best to accommodate a reasonable request.

Children's privacy

This site is safe for a general audience and is not directed at children, but we take extra care here regardless: we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your country, e.g. 16 in parts of the EU unless a member state sets it lower). There are no accounts to create, no names or emails requested anywhere on the site, and no chat or messaging features. If a parent or guardian believes a child has somehow provided personal information to us, contact us at the email below and we will investigate and delete it promptly.

International data transfers

If advertising cookies are active, Google's advertising infrastructure may process data in the United States and other countries as part of its global service. Google maintains its own compliance mechanisms for international transfers (including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable) see Google's Privacy Policy for details, since we rely on Google's own representations for this rather than making claims on Google's behalf.

Data retention

Standard server logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting, and are not used for any other purpose. Cookie consent choices are stored in your own browser (not on our servers) until you clear your browser data or change your preference.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date above. For material changes affecting how advertising cookies work, we may also reset the consent banner so you're asked again.
